What a joy and surprise to hear about a web site dedicated to the amazing Fairfax Street Choir. I had the pleasure to hear the Choir perform on numerous occasions in 1974-75. At the time, I was living with and assisting Francisco Lupica (Cosmic Beam), and he was very much involved with the Marin music community. Francisco provided the sound for the Whole Earth Festival in Davis in 1974 & 1975. I recorded both festivals from a soundboard feed on reel-to-reel tape and I still have the Choir's show from 1974. Unfortunately, the recordings from the 1975 festival did not survive the last 30 years. I also recorded the Choir's performance at the GG Park bandshell on 6/22/75, but I'm sorry to say that tape is also gone.
I have snapshots from the Whole Earth Festival performances, as well as the "Looking For Your Long Lost Mind Revue" show with Pat Craig and other Choir members at the Marin Civic Center on 7/13/75. These include photos of Francisco playing drums with the Choir, Laura Allen singing and playing dulcimer with the Choir and Lynny & Christopher dancing.
Starting in late 1975, I became a professional photographer in the music community and worked with many of the Bay Area bands (www.MusicImages.com). Being a photographer, I had to take meticulous care of my negatives so I'm sure I have the ones of the Choir. I will dig those out, scan them and email them to you. I'll also do my best to transfer the 30 year old audio tapes to CD so everyone can enjoy them. Hopefully they have withstood the test of time.

Ace Of Cups guitarist Diane Kaufman recorded a 45 in 1966 on Wee Records in Oakland, California. The single was released as “Boy What’ll You Do Then” by Denise on one side and Chaos (an Instrumental) by Denise & Co. on the other. Supposedly only 2 copies of this record exist and as of a few days ago are now both owned by two different Bay Area collectors of Bay Area related music. This week a copy was on sale on ebay and the bidding was up to $5,100.00 when ebay closed down the auction. One of high bidders contacted the seller and offered him $10 Thousand Dollars for the record, the seller took it. Goldmine Magazine has contacted Denise and wants to do a piece about it. There is a forum about this subject on www.garagepunk.com makes you wish you had a copy to sell doesn’t it.

Hey Mark.....I remember you!!! I've been trying to remember your name all these years....lol...NO!...I'm not old!....Just slept alot of times since then...rofl....Good to hear from you!!!
Hiya Mark! I can't remember if you and I worked at the Trident at the same time or not. I know I got my job there after the choir days were over. What a great place to work! I fondley remember Eggs Benedict and Capaccino Sausalitos on the deck looking out at the city sparkling across the bay while Steely Dan reverberated from the rafters. Is Horizons still there?
Hi Everyone, Gypsy, thanks for your efforts in this wonderful website! It is a beautiful design.
I (Desda Cordtz Zuckerman) was in the Street Choir for a short time from 1973 to 1975 but it made a lasting impression on me and was a significant time in my life. I met the man I would marry shortly after joining the soprano section with Laura Allen, Carol Alexander (who recently returned from India), Cheryl Gurley, and Patty Baker in August of '73. When Bobby (guitar player Bobby Z)and I got married in '75 lot's of choir folk attended what has been referred to as the "last great hippy wedding" in Geyserville. I have pictures that might be fun for you all to see of the wedding. Wendy Palmer and Lynnie even danced for us as a gift with another beautiful woman who we are still trying to identify. Lot's of the choir kids were there too, with the average age being about 4. Patty Baker, who became Tamam Kahn was my maid of honor and Marlyn who had recovered from Giran Barre (sp?)in our place in Olema the year before, received the bouquet. Anyway, it was really fun to read all the great comments thoughout the site. They started so many memories percolating.
Bobby and I are still married and living in Marin in Novato. We have a 27 year old daughter named Shira, which means song in Hebrew, who lives in Denver.
One of the things we'll never forget is Debbie Page (alto) and David Simmons (tenor)who were together at the time, sitting us down and explaining in great, sincerity that marriage was dead and that we shouldn't do it because nobody was doing it anymore. Funny huh? It's 32 years later and we still are madly in love. We played music professionally together until 1998 when we offically retired from that and moved into other fields. Bob is into computers, I'm into healing work. Teaching a modality I developed called, Core Individuation. It's based on the anatomy of the energy structure I have seen around people all my life. Diane Vitalich (Drummer) was renting space in my office here in Novato for several years so I was lucky to see a lot of her smiling face. We'd love to be part of a reunion so : WHEN IS IT? Please let us know!! Much love and light, Desda
Dear Gypsy, and those of you who remember who I am. I was not a singer in the Street Choir, but a happy fan. I ran into Clyde (at the Tazmanian Devil's gig at the Mystic in Petaluma), who told me about this reunion, and where I could find you Gypsy. I will check this site as to where and when. I will be there. Look forward to seeing and hearing you all again. Be Well, Eva Lindholm EvaShiva1@hotmail.com
Hello dear friends from the wonderful past! I had no clue! It's Monday night and I was on my computer and just had a hankering to Google FSC. This was the first site that came up and I was floored. I've tried before to look online for info without success. Wow Gypsy and those of you, Marla, Moses and others who have contributed, thanks!! Beautiful site!
I think of many of you often from where I am in the central valley not that far away. I can't tell from the blogs how current the dates. Has the reunion happened yet? I would love to join in and see some of you.
My e-mail is mamakazi@mac.com I was priveliged to be a part of FSC from around 73-? was a part of Phoenix Rising and then I think around 78 or 79 went on the road with Clyde to check out the top 40 circuit. I don't have very good memory for dates, but I see my picture on the web site a few times. I'd love to catch up. Thanks for this. It's really what I needed to see tonight.
Love, Catherine "Peach" Rasmussen formerly Beckwith. PS I saw Brownbird's post and I would love to hear from you girl. ; ) I will e-mail if you don't.

Doone, so cool to hear from you! had heard you lived on the island in Hilo but noone had seen you except I think Isa. Give me your email address. You can reach me at alohanuigypsy@gmail.com and yes I am packing to come home as we speak Aloha
What an amazing twist of providence to stumble upon this web site! I'm certain that absolutely no one remembers me because I was only with FSC for the first year of it's existence.
I was the 17 yo high school drop-out who lived on the Chinese Junk in the San Rafael Canal. I had a job at the Tail of the Tiger Pizza joint in San Anselmo, where I got hooked into becoming one of the founding coop members of the Sleeping Lady Cafe. Bill Bramlette and Jim Lombard were the masterminds. That is where I befriended all of those crazy folks from Hug, including Peter Montalbano, Clyde, Rennie Wong, Linda Haggerty, Glenn, Kit Lacey etc. Yeah, I was that obnoxious little squirt who couldn't generate any facial hair, and played an inept Delta Blues guitar.
That is also where I met Marla. She used to visit me on my sailboat, and we would commiserate about all kinds of things. She got me into Transcendental Meditation, and brought me into the Choir. I remember those first rehearsals at Cheryl Gurley's house. I was one of those crazies that dragged the piano down that hillside in Fairfax, and into Peter's Dodge flat-bed.
I remember Peter trying to teach me some basic clarinette so I could accompany during our first gig at the Lion's Share. I sucked!
I remember harmonizing with Stephen, and singing his composition with him. I remember having a hopeless crush on Marlyn, and worrying about her Guillian-Barre illness.
I remember our first big gig at the Inn of the Beginning when we opened for Vince Guaraldi. The audience really loved us.
Saddly, I couldn't stay with the choir because I had a calling to the healing arts.
I'm now a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon. I mostly do reconstruction for cancer and trauma, childhood deformities, and some aesthetic stuff.
I have been married for 25 years, and have 6 children that I have adopted from all over the world.
Though I doubt anyone remembers me, I have nothing but fond regards for you all. If anyone can, please relay my best wishes to Marla who was one of the inspirations for my wanting to pursue medicine. If I can ever be of help please let me know.
Much love, Patrick patrick@lappertplasticsurgery.com
I have read all these pages and am most struck by the humility and spirituality of you all still after all these years. Gypsy, what a wonderful site. Those posters are amazing. What? No Sleeping Lady Posters? Whatever happened tothe Sleeping Lady? Love you all and hope to see you at whatever reunion comes along.I am working at Fair Housing of Marin where I am office manager. We are the guys who help people who are being discriminated against when renting or buying a home. Doris C. dorischpm@sbcglobal.net
What a thrill to find this site! Thank you Gypsy, Marla, and Clyde for all the work you've put into this.
This is Marlyn. I go by Molly now. I have such wonderful memories of the Street Choir. Boy, we had a fine time.
Now I am a Waldorf Kindergarten teacher. I've been doing this for the past 12 years. In June I'm moving back to New Hampshire (I taught there for 5 years) where I will be living/working in a life sharing community for special needs adults. Just now I'm working at the Davis Waldorf School. We do a lot of singing in the kindergarten.
I wonder what is afoot with the reunion plans.
I would love to hear from any of you. My e-mail for now is mollycollum@sbcglobal.net
Hi, My name is Ian and I'm an Australian who lived in Marin in the early to mid 1970s. During this period I took every opportunity to enjoy all the bands in and around the Bay Area. Your choir was a highlight. My drinking hole in those days after heading home from work in Sausalito across the Richardson Bay bridge was a place called the 'Ancient Mariner' in the Strawberry Shopping Centre. It was at the 'Ancient Mariner' I befriended a couple named Bob Beifus & Sharon Bouchier who headlined most Friday and Saturday nights at the Mariner. Bob was blond, sang and played guitar while Sharon sang. If anyone out there knows how I could contact them after all these years it would certainly go a long way to blowing my mind. And I would of course be eternally grateful.
GREAT NEWS FOR YOU!!! THE REUNION WILL BE IN SEPTEMBER OF 2008 SOMEWHERE IN THE BAY AREA. WE MAY NEED VOLUNTEERS FOR CERTAIN TASKS. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU CAN COMMITT TO HELPING IN ANY WAY. ALOHA NUI, GYPSY

P.S. Anyone need a bass........ still got my pipes.......
Hi Everyone,
Gypsy, thanks for your efforts in this wonderful website!
Much love and light,
Desda
Dear Gypsy,
and those of you who remember who I am.
Be Well, Eva Lindholm

Much love,
Patrick

Dear Friends,
What a thrill to find this site!
With love,
Marlyn
It was my pleasure to be part of a very small group that was the very beginning of the Fairfax Street Choir.
Hi Marla.
Dee
Hi,
My name is Ian and I'm an Australian who lived in Marin in the early to mid 1970s.
